Prison Break: Celebrity Edition

MuHu~!

Let's talk about some iconic celebrities today. Do you know what's the hottest local entertainment news of the current? If you've been following the articles on newspapers and the news broadcasts on television, you will know that it's local celebrity Christopher Lee's drink-driving offence issue. Christopher Lee has been released from Queenstown Remand Prison on June 25, Monday at around 11 am after his jail term. His six weeks jail term's cut short to four weeks, possibly due to good behaviour.

Basically, Singaporeans are divided into two main concerned groups over the Christopher Lee issue. A large portion of us are really just commenting and debating on his illegal actions that found himself a lawsuit handing him a jail term. Questions like "As a celebrity, can his mistakes be condoned?" and "Is his jail term period appropriate?" form some of the common discussion. The rest of us are more concerned on the relationship status of the hottest celebrity couple in town - Fann Wong & Christopher Lee. Rumours have been floating about, including those that contain the possibilities of a break-up.

Anyway, Christopher held his first press conference since his prison release yesterday at 4.30 pm. Basically, he seems like a changed man. His press conference words and comments suggest that he has shown a strong sense of remorse over his mistakes made. Throughout his interview, he made several comments with the words "I have no right to..." that further displayed his repentance. It seems like he has lost some rights literally! MuHu~! You can have a detailed look at his press conference at

I think in the rise of recent drink-driving cases, Christopher's case is an excellent example displayed to the public that acts as a strong warning signal to all. Drivers will now like to think twice before performing acts of drink-driving. Everyone will now understand that drink-driving is a serious offence and 'nobody is spared from punishment', not even influential celebrities. I'm speculating that in time to come, when somebody around you intends to drink and drive, you shall be saying "Eh, be careful. You want to be the next Christopher Lee ah?". Perhaps that might be more of a better persuasion to hire public transport escort home after drinking for the drunk drivers in future? Might I even be bold to suggest the possibility of Christopher being the potential 'Anti Drink-driving' campaign spokesman? MuHu~!

Let's take a look at the international version now. Paris Hilton is released from prison due to her driving violation charges just after the stroke of midnight on June 26 yesterday. Remember how she mentioned during her term in prison that she will "plan to serve God in some way, perhaps by creating a halfway house for former ex-convicts like herself" and "vow to change her party-going ways and give new meaning to her life"? Well, all I have to say is: Let's really, faithfully, seriously hope that she does.

Her release has been done in a red-carpet Hollywood manner, where she sashayed through the sea of media journalists and photographers waving and smiling at them. She heads to her mother Kathy Hilton at the end of the media parade and gives her a hug. When they arrive back home, let me quote from media sources, "a van from DreamCatchers Hair Extensions enters their gates for an apparent hair extension appointment with Paris. A makeup artist arrived on foot with a little pushcart filled with cosmetics, and a stylist also approached the gate carryng several designer bags filled with stuff". What happened to the promises she has made during her jail term?

According to Wikipedia, in November 2004 Hilton participated in Sean "Diddy" Combs' Citizen Change campaign to encourage youths to vote in the presidential election. She drew criticism after it was revealed she had neither voted nor registered to do so. I think we all have a fair idea of what Paris is all about, don't we? Well, Paris is back to being the same old Paris again.

In comparison, I noticed that Paris didn't 'lose any rights' like Christopher did. Her glamorous Hollywood behaviour and habits returned her to her old self, while Christopher's indirectly trying to ask for forgiveness by cultivating a sense of remorse first thing after he's released.

So what changes can we see from their various cases? It's simple. Christopher has reflected and evolved into a better matured man, while Paris is still the same simplistic self-liquidating little girl whose inheritance of her father's hotel and real estate fortune is a disastrous calamity in many's eyes.

I shall be posting again.
