Disgustingly crude, fully retarded, ridiculously hilarious. This is Tropic Thunder. As seen from the taglines we've slapped this film with, you should be warned against elements of offensive crude humour for some of you out there are simply allergic to such films where you respond with epileptic fits of disgust.
Set as a film within a film, it's interesting to know that Tropic Thunder is indeed directed by Ben Stiller, who's a real life actor playing an actor acting in a war film. Together with some of Hollywood's current A-list celebrities, "Ironman" Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black, as well as several big-starred cameo performances, this is one of the rare comedy flicks we've seen of such star-studded calibre. Worthy of note is the fantastic acting performance by Robert Downey Jr., who plays as an Australian actor Kirk Lazarus, who's depicting an African-American war sergeant. I'm rather impressed by his versatility and role-adaptation ability, it's controversial for a white man to play a black man, but he's so funny at it that it nullifies the controversy I guess. Not to forget the shocking cameo performance by Tom Cruise as a fat and balding wicked-mouthed studio head, whom we almost failed to recognize with all his makeup and wacky performance!
Containing quite a few comedic scenes and lines within the script, it kept the audience laughing for most of the time. From the beginning trailer and advertising spoofs to the fully retarded Simple Jack, there's enough laughs to squeeze out of your ticket price. In fact I think you'll suffer from laughing cramps if you're one who's easily amused.
Definitely one of the better choices in theatres this week with quality performances and hilarious screen moments, you will not go far too wrong with a ticket to this film (Unless you're one who's allergic to crude humour). Sit through Tropic Thunder if you are suffering from a bad day, and go with the right movie kaki as you won't like someone next to you spoiling your experience by repeating the line "so lame" from the trailers right to the credit roll.
Definitely worthy of a weekday ticket.
