I know it’s a little too late for this but to those who caught Sex and the City, good on you because both Muhu and I loved it! There’re many, many reviews on the movie, you can just Google it to find a decent review. (The movie is off screens already anyway)
To sum it up, SATC is about 4 beautiful and equally successful women from the hit series Sex and the City reviewing about their take on relationships, family, careers and life. With much said and heard, the movie is closure to the 6 seasons long TV series, ending with Carrie finally with Mr. Big. (Their on and off relationship lasted 6 seasons, that’s how complicated.)
What are the elements that make up a movie? Other than the cinematography, the visuals, the soundtracks of the movie could bring more depths to it than you think. Can you imagine sitting through a movie without music at the background? What makes a movie complete is the fantastic soundtrack that comes along with it – The soundtracks make or break the movie.
SATC’s original soundtrack is made up of 14 tracks:
Labels or Love (Fergie)
All Dressed In Love (Jennifer Hudson)
The Look Of Love -Madison Park vs Lenny B Remix (Nina Simone)
New York Girls (Morningwood)
All This Beauty (The Weepies)
I Like The Way (Kaskade)
It's Amazing (Jem)
How Deep Is Your Love (The Bird & The Bee)
The Heart Of The Matter (India.Arie)
Auld Lang Syne (Mairi Campbell & Dave Francis)
Kissing (Bliss)
How Can You Mend A Broken Heart (Al Green featuring Joss Stone)
Walk This Way (Run-D.M.C. featuring Steve Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith)
Sex and the City Movie Theme (The Pfeifer Broz. Orchestra)
Mainly remakes of old classics and a couple of new tracks by few most noted artistes.
Labels or Love is a fast number by Fergie. This track aptly sings about what Carrie said at the opening of the Movie about women who left where they’re from and moved in to the Big Apple for two Ls – Labels and Love. For women without Love, or still searching, would lavish themselves with the expensive labels – bags, clothes, and shoes! This is definitely one great summer track to dance to. It’s chirpy and upbeat, not unusual for Fergie to sing it.
All Dressed in Love is my favourite track from the album. It’s jazzy and sexy. It’s one of those feel-good songs that would put you in a great mood for the rest of the day.
Cool in the summer, warm in the winter
I’m all dressed up in love
And I’m cool in the summer, warm in the winter
Speaking of Jennifer Hudson, she has grown so much from being that ousted Amercian Idol to Dream girls to SATC’s Louise. She has blossomed so much as a singer as well as an actress. She truly deserved all that she has right now.
If you’re a ballad’s kinda person, you might like The Heart of the Matter by India Arie which was originally by Don Henley. This is actually another feel-good song, about growing up and moving on from a situation that has bothered you for a time long enough, especially matters that concern the heart.
I've been learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning them again
I've been tryin' to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore
This track was played when Carrie ran away from Big after he chicken-ed out from the wedding.
The other tracks are mostly remakes, which I think is subject to personal preference. I enjoyed the collaboration of Al Green and Joss Stone for the song, How do you mend a broken heart. It’s a new twist to an old classic. This is the track played when Miranda and Steve met at the Brooklyn bridge to give their marriage another try. Also a remake of How Deep is your Love by The bird and the bee which was just as refreshing. A different take other than the Bee Gees.
If you enjoyed the movie, you might just enjoy this album as well.
Are you Carried away yet?
