Film: Wanted (Review)

Of all the recent comics-to-film projects, this might serve to be one of the most highly-inaccurate adaptation ever. It means that comic fans of the original might be disappointed as visionary director Timur Bekmambetov explores deeper with his unique style and sequential direction after showing us what he can do with his own sci-fi trilogy - Nightwatch and Daywatch.
'
Wanted is a film about a group of assassins known as The Fraternity thriving well into modern times whose long history finds itself attaching upon Wesley, a feeble slacker, who realized that his father was a member of The Fraternity. Things get dark and twisted after he trains hard to become a fine assassin himself under the group.
'
This is literally an action thriller. Bekmambetov showcases his strength in unique action sequences as they are gripping with an abundance of adrenaline injected into the soul of this film. I'm amazed that the experience of the male lead during his anxiety attacks are brought very much to life to an extend that even I can sensually feel what the character is going through. Kudos to Bekmambetov for his prowess in visionary cinematics.
'
However, once the blam-bang-boom ceases, the subtle moments of the film appeared somewhat lacklustre. Perhaps the action might be overly enticing, thus creating such a feeling upon inevitable contrast.
'
For those who're not familiar with his Russian trilogy, you might want to give it a try and treat your senses to spectacular adrenaline-pumping action.
'
Kacang-puteh anyone?
