Seven Wonders of the World: New & Ancient

MuHu~!

Swiss-based New Open World Corporation (NOWC) has recently revealed the results of a worldwide online election for the New Seven Wonders of the World on July 7 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal. Here's the list:

New Seven Wonders of the World

- Chichen Itza (Yucatan, Mexico)

- Christ The Redeemer (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

- Great Wall of China (China)

- Manchu Picchu (Cuzco, Peru)

- Petra (Jordan)

- Colosseum (Rome, Italy)

- Taj Mahal (Agra, India)

- Great Pyramid of Giza (Cairo, Egypt) [Honorary Candidate]

Personally, I think this list is not really accurate. Since it's an online and telephone poll, the results only represent the votes of those who can access the Internet and the phone. Multiple votes can be purchased from NOWC by any individual and/or organization. This transforms the poll into some contest similar to commercial favourites such as American Idol or Project Superstar, in all this poll is mainly for profitable benefits when people worldwide get all hyped up and cast votes that contributes to monetary profits for NOWC. Alright, I know you all want to hear me say the long-awaited phrase: This is all Bullshit!

.

Amongst the eight winning candidates, the Great Pyramid of Giza is still my favourite since it's the only one of the Seven Ancient Wonders remaining currently. In case anybody is curious about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, allow me to enlighten:

.

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (from left to right, top to bottom): Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Mausoleum of Maussollos, Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria as depicted by 16th-century Dutch artist Marten Heemskerk. Out of all these, the Great Pyramid still stands now while the others were either destroyed by fires, earthquakes or other undetermined means.

I like to visit the Wonders of the World as soon as possible as one moment of delay will also mean a degree of decline in their states of preservation since time and nature will wear them down eventually. It's a pity I'm not able to behold any of the other Ancient Wonders in sight, but at least the Great Pyramid is still standing in Egypt! Perhaps I should plan for a trip sometime soon in the near future...?

.

I shall be posting again.
